Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

What is solar self-consumption?

It means generating your own electricity with solar panels and using it directly at home or in your business. You’ll reduce your reliance on the grid and cut down your energy bills.

How do solar panels work?

They capture sunlight and convert it into electricity using photovoltaic cells. That energy can be used immediately, stored in batteries, or fed back into the grid.

How many panels do I need?

It depends on your energy use, roof space, and orientation. At Watts Renovable, we carry out a tailored assessment to design the most efficient system for you.

Are there any taxes on installing solar panels?

No specific taxes apply. In fact, many local councils offer discounts on property tax (IBI) and construction tax (ICIO), and there are income tax deductions available too.

What happens to the energy I don’t use straight away?

You can store it in batteries or benefit from a feed-in scheme that lets you offset surplus energy against your electricity bill.

Do I need a new electricity meter?

Not necessarily. In many cases, your existing meter can be adapted.

What if there’s a power cut?

Without batteries, your system will shut down for safety reasons. With batteries or hybrid systems, you’ll still have power during outages.

How much can I save on my electricity bill?

Savings can reach up to 100%, depending on your usage, battery setup, and feed-in compensation. Public grants also help you recover your investment faster.

Can I sell the electricity I don’t use?

Yes, but it requires a formal contract with your energy provider. Most people opt for the simpler feed-in compensation model.

Will I still have an electricity bill?

Yes, but it’ll be much lower. You’ll still pay the fixed part of your contract and any extra consumption not covered by your panels.

What guarantees come with the system?

We install European-made solar panels with 20–25 years product warranty. Our inverters come with a minimum 12-year warranty — 7 years more than most brands — at no extra cost.

What about maintenance?

Solar systems require minimal upkeep, but regular checks are recommended. We offer annual maintenance plans to keep your system running at peak performance.

Do I need to legalise the installation?

Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.

Are there grants or subsidies available? Do you help with paperwork?

Yes! In Catalonia, there are several public incentives — ICAEN grants, Next Generation EU funds, local tax discounts, and income tax deductions. We take care of the entire process: identifying available support, preparing technical documents, and handling the paperwork.

Can I share the solar energy I produce with neighbours or other buildings?

Yes! Shared self-consumption is a legal option that allows energy to be distributed across multiple users. Perfect for residential blocks, nearby businesses, or families sharing a space. We help you legalise it and set up fair distribution.

Is it legal to install solar panels for self-consumption?

Yes, absolutely. Current regulations actively support solar installations with simplified procedures and technical guidance.
